An appropriate five-year budget to\nestablish a safe and convenient commuter cycling network in Stellenbosch.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2018n Gepaste vyfjaarbegroting om \u2018n\nveilige en gerieflike fietspendelnetwerk op Stellenbosch te vestig. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Motivation<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n A commuter cycling network in Stellenbosch\nis a vital component for a sustainable transport strategy. A safe and convenient\nnetwork will play a significant role in alleviating vehicular traffic and\nparking problems with an added health benefit: exercise and less pollution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Such an extended network will provide\nresidents from all areas such as Ida\u2019s Valley, Cloetesville, Kayamandi, Die\nBoord, Dalsig and the eastern neighbourhoods unhindered, safe and convenient\naccess to the CBD, schools, shops etc and between neighbourhoods and areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The lack of an extended and connective\nnetwork is the main reason why people do not commute more by bicycle in\nStellenbosch. Painted cycle lanes on certain roads offer no protection and on\nmain connector routes cyclists have to share narrow roads with vehicles, which\nis unsafe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Motivering<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2018n Fietspendelnetwerk op Stellenbosch is \u2018n\nnoodsaaklike deel van \u2018n volhoubare vervoerstrategie. \u2018n Veilige en gerieflike\nnetwerk sal \u2018n beduidende rol speel in\ndie verligting van die verkeers- en\nparkeerprobleem.
